At Camp Mákemáke, summer is about more than just fun, games, and adventure—it’s also a place for growth, learning, and community. One of the partnerships we are especially proud of is with the Universidad de Los Andes bilingual education program. Each year, we welcome a group of passionate young people training to be teachers, and the impact they have on our campers is simply extraordinary.

These volunteers bring energy, creativity, and dedication to every activity, whether it’s leading arts and crafts sessions, guiding outdoor adventures, or supporting campers as they try something new for the first time. Their training in bilingual education allows them to connect with children in meaningful ways, fostering both language development and confidence. But beyond their skills, it’s their warmth, enthusiasm, and genuine care for each camper that makes them truly special.
For the students from Universidad de Los Andes, Camp Mákemáke offers a unique and hands-on experience. Here, they practice teaching, learn how to adapt to different personalities and needs, and grow as educators in a supportive and joyful environment. It’s a partnership that enriches everyone involved: campers, volunteers, and the Camp Mákemáke community alike.
We often hear from our campers how much they enjoy learning from these young educators, and from the volunteers themselves about how inspiring it is to work in such a lively and welcoming environment. The friendships formed, the lessons learned, and the shared laughter create memories that last far beyond the summer season.
At Camp Mákemáke, we believe in the power of partnerships that nurture growth, curiosity, and kindness. Our collaboration with Universidad de Los Andes is a shining example of this belief—a beautiful meeting of experience, enthusiasm, and education that makes our camp a richer, more vibrant place.
We are grateful for every volunteer who joins us and contributes to the magic of Camp Mákemáke, helping us continue to create a summer full of discovery, learning, and joy.
