Camp Mákemáke: Picking Organic Blueberries and Baking the Perfect Pie

At Camp Mákemáke, summer is about more than games and crafts—it’s about connecting with nature, working together, and creating something delicious with your own hands. One of the most magical experiences of the season is our organic blueberry adventure, a two-day journey that celebrates food, teamwork, and the thriving ecosystem around us.

Evening in the Blueberry Orchards

As the sun begins to set, campers wander into our organic blueberry orchards, baskets in hand, surrounded by golden light. The orchards are alive with bees buzzing, butterflies fluttering, and birds singing—a reminder of how every part of the ecosystem thrives together.

These aren’t just any blueberries—they are some of the sweetest, juiciest, and most flavorful in Chile, grown organically by our farmer Alberto. No chemicals, just fertile, well-tended soil and careful care, producing berries that taste like summer in every bite. Picking them at dusk is both peaceful and magical, giving children a deep connection to the land and the food they harvest.

The Blueberry Pie Bake-Off

The next day, the fun continues in the kitchen with our Blueberry Pie Bake-Off. Campers work in teams, making their pies completely from scratch—rolling dough, filling it with the blueberries they picked, and creating their own unique designs. This is creativity, collaboration, and joy in action, as kids cheer each other on and learn to combine flavors, textures, and techniques.

When the pies are baked to golden perfection, campers gather to enjoy the fruits of their labor, served hot with cream or vanilla ice cream. The experience is about more than taste—it’s about pride, teamwork, and the pure joy of creating something from start to finish with friends.

Learning From Our Farmer

Farmer Alberto teaches campers about organic practices and sustainability, showing how the farm supports a thriving ecosystem—from healthy soil to pollinators, and from water conservation to wildlife protection. Children leave with an understanding that caring for nature benefits everyone, and that even small hands can make a big difference.

A Summer Memory That Lasts

From the calm beauty of the orchards at dusk to the smells, laughter, and teamwork in the kitchen the next morning, the blueberry experience is unforgettable. Camp Mákemáke is a place where food, nature, creativity, and community come together, leaving campers with memories of sun-ripened blueberries, warm pies, and the joy of working together to create something amazing.
